Introduction

Merrill Creek Reservoir (MCR) located in Harmony, New Jersey has been home to a nesting pair of bald eagles since 1999. On June 13, 2011 two chicks were banded and fitted with satellite transmitters by biologists with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), Division of Fish and Wildlife, Endangered and Non-Game Species Program. MCR approached the NJDEP about purchasing transmitters in the hope that monitoring the movement of these birds will assist with the protection of these majestic birds. This collaborative effort marks the first time in New Jersey that bald eagles have been tracked with satellite transmitters.
