Background

Stinky Pete originally stranded in August of 2003 off of Virginia's Eastern shore. Stinky was discovered floating and unable to dive by the U.S. Coast Guard. Stinky Pete received his/her name after getting 'sick' in the cab of the rescue truck (and a rescuer's purse). The Virginia Marine Science Museum rehabilitated Stinky in time for a fall 2003 release from Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. A Ph.D. student from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science placed a Wildlife Computers SDR-T16 satellite tag on Stinky Pete in order to monitor Stinky's fall migration and diving behavior.
