Introduction
This project represented the first deployment of satellite monitoring of sea turtles in Veracuruz. Satellite transmitters were attached to green turtles (Chelonia mydas), at Campamento Tortuguero in Lechuguillas, Veracruz-Mexico. Tagging was done between, 2000 and 2001. Three adult female turtles were captured following the deposition of their egg clutches and transported to the base camp to be fitted with the radio transmitter. Telonics model ST-18 transmitters, programmed with a duty cycle of 6 hour transmission period followed by an 18 hour passive cycle were attached to the second central scutes of two sexually mature female turtles. The turtlesâ movements have been monitored by collecting longitude and latitude data using The Service ARGOS Satellite System.
