Matthew graduated in 1998 with a degree in Immunology (BSc Hons). In 2002, he gained his MSc in Oceanography at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (http://www.noc.soton.ac.uk) and in 2003 he obtained an MRes in Marine Biology with the Marine Biological Association of the UK (http://www.mba.ac.uk).
Matthew's PhD work is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC http://www.nerc.ac.uk/) and focuses on habitat utilization by marine turtles in pelagic environments; integrating satellite derived data on the biological and physical aspects of the world’s oceans (ocean currents, productivity and temperature) with movement patterns of satellite-transmitter equipped turtles. His current work concentrates on the movements of leatherback sea turtles migrating from Gabon (Equatorial West Africa) to their proposed South Atlantic foraging grounds (https://seaturtle.org/tracking/?project_id=104).
