Background

Cinderella, an adult female loggerhead sea turtle, arrived to nest at HaSharon beach. Just like Cinderella, from the fairy tale, who had to return home by midnight, Cinderella the turtle came ashore exactly at midnight. We can nickname her nesting location, her "home" beach, since sea turtles are philopatric animals who return to nest at the same beach where they hatched.

It is estimated that there are only about one hundred female loggerheads that nest in Israel. In the past three years we notice an increase in the number of loggerhead nests in comparison to previous years. With the satellite transmitter attached, we are thrilled to watch Cinderella's path during the nesting season, as well as curious to see where she will head afterwards.
