Background

This satellite tracking project has been sponsored by BHP Billiton Iron Ore as part of the Quantum Outer Harbour Development project. The project objectives are to to fill in the gaps in our knoweldge on flatback turtle movements following nesting in the Port Hedland region. This turtle was captured for the satellite tracking with the assistance of volunteers from the Care for Hedland Environmental Association. Camo was found on Cemetery Beach in Port Hedland, Western Australia. A competition to name her was run by the Care for Hedland Environmental Association. She was named Camo by Brooke (aged 8) who wanted to "name a Hedland turtle Camo as she is able to camoflage herself into a piece of debris that is floating and this stops predators from attacking her."
