Background
"Hollings" is a small (60.4cm SCLmin, 36.3kg) juvenile loggerhead sea turtle that likely only recently recruited back to North American continental shelf waters within the past few years. "Hollings" was captured by a research trawl conducted by the RV Lady Lisa on 4 June 2019 (authorized by NMFS Section 10(A)(1)(a) permit 19621).
To evaluate whether generally shorter track durations associated with Kemp's ridley sea turtles are due to species behavior or simply small transmitter size (and reduced epoxy used to adhere transmitters), several loggerheads of similar size as the largest Kemp's tracked in our study will be outfitted with satellite transmitters in 2019.
