ENGLISH
On the 12th April 2018 biologists from the local Mexican NGO Red Tortuguera A.C. visited the Isla Coral in Bahia de Jaltemba, Nayarit, Mexico.
After four hours looking for turtles swimming transects using snorkels during the day it was time for the first nightly survey on around the island. On entering the water we quickly located a flipper poking out from a cave under a rock. This led to the capture of "Noctiluca" (the Spanish word for bioluminescence):
Noctiluca measured:
69 Curved Carapace Length
63 Curved Carapace Width
61.6 Straight Carapace Length
50.0 Straight Carapace Width
Isla Coral has been declared a protected area by the local fishing cooperative and looked after by the cooperative and local tourism operators.
