Nily (Loggerhead) is on the coast of Egypt and 154 km from Gaza

Background

Nili is an adult female Loggerhead, who arrived at the Israel Sea Turtle Rescue Center on April 2015. Nili was found floating at sea with a rope tangled around her front limb, and a plastic bottle attached to it. She was spotted by the crew of a yacht, sailing close by, who lifted her onto the Yacht and contacted the rescue center. After a physical examination, we found that although the rope blocked the blood flow to the fin, Nili's fin was not yet necrotic, which meant there was still a chance for a full recovery.
Nili was given antibiotics to prevent bacteria from the damaged fin to spread and cause a systematic infection. She was feeling well and eating regularly. After 5 months at the rescue center, Nili's fin was fully functional, she was eating and swimming and it was clear she's on the path to a full recovery. She was held for another 3 months so she could get stronger and gain weight. On Sunday, September 6th 2015, Nily was released back to sea with a satellite transmitter.
