Static Map | Zoom Map | "Karen" (named after Karen Holloway-Adkins who assisted with transmitter attachment) is THE FIRST green sea turtle that we've ever satellite tagged and only the 4th of 21 green sea turtle captured in >8000 trawling events conducted in coastal waters across our various studies since 2000 large enough to be considered mature.
Background "Karen" is an adult (91.5cm SCL, 115 kg) female green sea turtle captured during research trawling conducted by the RV Georgia Bulldog under NMFS Section 10(A)(1)(a) permit 19621 and GADNR Scientific Collection CN21303 on 20 June 2019. "Karen" was captured <10km from where a similar-sized male green sea turtle was captured during research trawling in July 2012.
