Le projet MAUBYDICK, porté par lâassociation mauricienne Marine Megafauna Conservation Organisation (M2C0, tentera de répondre à ces questions sur une période de 5 ans (2014-2018). La première mission se déroule du 19 novembre au 4 décembre 2014 sur la côte Ouest de lâile Maurice. Elle consiste à repérer et photo-identifier les individus puis à effectuer des prélèvements cutanés et déployer des balises Argos sur les individus choisis.
What are the movements of sperm whales observed throughout the year in Mauritius? Do observed matriarchal groups travel between the islands of the South-Western Indian Ocean? Where do the breeding males go after reproducing in Mauritius and where do they come from?
The project MAUBYDICK, led by the Mauritian NGO Marine Megafauna Conservation Organization (M2C0) will attempt to answer these questions over a 5-year period (2014-2018). The first field mission will take place from 19 November to 4 December 2014 on the west coast of Mauritius. Its goal is the photo-identification of the sperm whales of the area, skin biopsies and satellite tag deployment on selected individuals.

The French NGO Megaptera, The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources assisted by Mikkel Villum and Sea Blue Safari will bring together their expertise in terms of monitoring of cetacean populations and satellite tag deployment. Dolswim is responsible for the logistics of tag deployment and provides the tagging boat.
