Beach Description
Botany Island has 1.6 km of ocean facing beach and 1 km of beach facing the North Edisto River. The owners (Ocella Group) have a conservation easement on the property with the Nature Conservancy and only a few homes will be allowed on the west side of the island. This island is circular in shape and the beach extends from the ocean side around to the North Edisto River. Due to the proximity of the North Edisto River, the beach is highly dynamic. Currently the beach is eroding with a high scrap on the front beach. Originally a creek separated the two properties, however since sand moved and filled in the creek the beach front is contiguous with Botany Bay Heritage Preserve/WMA.
