Beach Description
Raccoon Key is an undeveloped barrier island within the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Raccoon Key lies south of Lighthouse Island. The Key is segmented by several small creeks. Raccoon Key serves as an important nesting habitat for many species including loggerhead sea turtles, diamondback terrapins, and several species of shorebirds. There are no standardized daily sea turtle nesting surveys on this beach. Any nest monitoring and management on Raccoon Key is opportunistic and variable.
