At the tip of St. Helena Island lies Lands End Beach, located in Beaufort County on Port Royal Sound. The beach is on the far side of the river across from Parris Island, and is subject to extreme ranges in tides levels. In many places the regular high line crosses homeowners' sea walls and the tree line, limiting the areas that appeal to nesting Loggerheads.

As of 2022, Lands End had lost 8-10 ft of suitable nesting habitat (beach, dune, and tree line) in the few areas still attractive to sea turtles. As of the start of the 2024 season, Lands End has lost up to 30 ft of beach. At the north end of the patrol area the marsh behind the narrow spit of beach now washes over and meets the ocean during high tide.

Prior to 2021 SCDNR responded to calls from the public regarding nesting activity on this beach. Beginning in 2021, trained volunteers survey the area weekly, starting at the Fort Fremont public access point, and continuing north to the creek separating Lands End and Bermuda Bluff. The majority of nesting habitat is north of the area known as Woodlands. There is less than 1 kilometer of quality nesting habitat as of 2024, strung out along 4.8 kilometers of the patrolled area.
