Background

On March 25, 2007 the day of the 50th anniversary of European Union, this turtle was released from one of Europe's southernmost locations, a few tens of km away from the Africa coast. She was given the name of Union to celebrate this special event.

Union was accidentally fished and recovered in Lampedusa by the local WWF Rescue Center to be released a few days after capture. Like her companions she left Lampedusa in SE direction.
