Background

Qirniqtaq (pronounced Keer-neek-tak) means 'black' in Inuktitut for the double black leg bands he is wearing. Inuktitut is one of the Inuit languages of Nunavut in northern Canada where Qirniqtaq's breeding grounds are located.
