Background

Marruuk (pronounced mar-roook) is the Inuktitut word for 'two' because it was the second bird we deployed a transmitter on in the 2014 field season. Inuktitut is one of the Inuit languages of Nunavut in northern Canada, where Marruuk's breeding grounds are located. Marruuk's transmitter fell off on the breeding grounds. It continued to transmit throughout the 2015 breeding season (Marruuk was seen alive and breeding in the area), and was finally recovered in 2016 and re-deployed on a new bird, Sivataarvik.
