Background
Atausiq (pronounced ah-taow-sick) is the Inuktitut word for 'one' because it was the first bird we deployed a transmitter on this field season. Inuktitut is one of the Inuit languages of Nunavut in northern Canada, where Atausiq's breeding grounds are located.
