Satellite TrackingYasser - Renaissance Whale and Dolphin Project 2015 Arabian Sea Humpback Whale Satellite Tagging A project of Environment Society of Oman. Static Map | Yasser
Background Yasser is a male Arabian Sea humpback whale and a new animal to the team when tagged in November 2015 in the Gulf of Masirah. Yasser is named after one of the survey team members whom first sighted the animal whilst it was resting on the surface prior to a dive where it entertained the crew with exquisite renditions of whale song. The data from acoustic recording devices left in the Gulf of Masirah between 2012 and 2014 is currently being analysed to determine the seasonality of whales in the area. Together with satellite telemetry data this should provide important evidence on the importance of this area to humpback whales (and other whales and dolphins) throughout the year.
SEATURTLE.ORG collaborates with Argos to help scientists and conservationists manage and analyse their valuable animal tracking data. ![]() |
