Emerald Isle
North Carolina WRC Sea Turtle Project

Emerald Isle includes about 12 miles of ocean-side beach front on the western end of the island of Bogue Banks in Carteret County, NC. Volunteers working in Emerald Isle have been monitoring and protecting sea turtle nests since the mid-1980s. Emerald Isle is divided into 13 zones, each about 1 mile long. Our program currently involves over three hundred volunteers to patrol the beaches during nesting and hatching seasons
