Onslow beach is located within the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Onslow County. This beach has one of the longest-running sea turtle monitoring projects in North Carolina (since the early 1970s), and also has a Sea Turtle Sanctuary established in its nearshore coastal waters. Personnel from the Environmental Management Division of Camp Lejeune are responsible for monitoring and protecting sea turtle nests laid on Onslow beach, and also for responding to stranded turtles
