Beach Description
Pea Island National Wildlife Refuges was established on 17 May, 1937, and includes about 13 miles of ocean-side beach, on the northern end of Hatteras Island in the Outerbanks of North Carolina. Pea Island staff have been monitoring and protecting sea turtle nests in the refuge since 1980. The refuge is open to visitors only during daytime, and no driving is allowed on the beach.
