Bald Head Island is a forested barrier island which lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Cape Fear River, in southeastern North Carolina.

Middle and Bluff Islands join Bald Head to form what has been historically known as the Smith Island complex. The northern-most subtropical island on the Atlantic seaboard, Bald Head features a significant maritime forest, over 10,000 acres of salt marsh and estuaries, and ten miles of ocean beaches. Access is by private passenger ferry from the mainland at Southport, NC, by private boat, or by foot from Fort Fisher.
