Glossary

  1. ID No. - Unique number assigned to each nest.
  2. Species - species of the turtle that laid the nest. This can sometimes be determined by the tracks left in the sand by the turtle if she is not observed directly.
  3. Date Laid - date that the nest was laid on the beach.
  4. Status - current status of the nest. Relocted means that the nest was moved. In situ means that the nest was left in place.
  5. Eggs Laid - number of eggs in the nest if known. The eggs are counted if the nest is relocated. Otherwise the number of eggs is estimated after the nest hatches.
  6. Events - number of events that have been recorded for this nest to date. An event may include relocation or a loss of some eggs due to predation, erosion or other factors.
  7. Tagged - indicates whether the nesting turtle had identifying tags, like flipper tags or a PIT tag. If she has tags it may be possible to construct a nesting history for her, which will be displayed on your adoption page. Nesting turtles are not always encountered in which case the tags are not recorded.
