Note that these items are under active development, and should be considered beta (or even alpha) versions. As such don't be surprised if something doesn't work or is buggy. Ambassador Network

This is intended to be a resource to help people that want to learn more about turtles get in touch with people that want to teach people about turtles. Turtlers acting as ambassadors for sea turtles, and sea turtles acting as ambassadors for the marine environment.

Market Place

SEATURTLE.ORG has been using Mission Fish for some time now, and thanks mostly to nicaceramics has raised a reasonable amount of money for it's programs. But it strikes me that there is an opportunity to expand the scope of this relationship, by increasing the visibility and ease of use of this feature. By listing their items on seaturtle.org vendors are exposed to thousands of sea turtle enthusiasts every day, and in return seaturtle.org receives a percentage of any sales as a donation. The new Market Place feature will scrape seaturtle.org's Mission Fish page periodically looking for new listings. Listings that donate 50% or more of their proceeds to seaturtle.org will be listed on the seaturtle.org home page. Listings that donate 25-50% of their proceeds to seaturtle.org will be listed on a new Market Place page (still under development).

Most Popular Pages and Resources

Similar to the tag cloud tool, an effort to show the most popular pages and resources on the site. In the past I have done this manually, but it is a bit tedious. This is automated and looks at most fequently requested pages over last 24 hours (updated hourly).

Tag Cloud

SEATURTLE.ORG has become so large that navigation is a serious problem. It is impossible to link to all of the resources on the home page without creating a cluttered mess. This is part of an ongoing effort to help visitors more quickly and easily find what they are looking for. This particular tool uses the "tag cloud" idea to provide a large number of links in a small space. Occossionally available on the home page. This default version ranks each link by the number of times it has been requested over the last 30 days. There is another version to looks at the last seven days.

International Sea Turtle Observation Registry

Similar to STRAND, but for sea turtle sighting data. Development only started about a month ago, but I am hopeful that it can go live for testing this month (May 2007).

Sea Turtle Rehabilitation and Necropsy Database

STRAND. A new online stranding database. Think STAT, but for sea turtle stranding data. This is based on the STSSN coordinated by NMFS. It is not meant to compete with the STSSN, but hopefully will streamline the process of collecting and managing sea turtle stranding data, increasing both the accuracy and speed of submission. In addition, I am attempting to design the system to be open-ended such that it can be used by any group any where in the world. STRAND was used by the State of North Carolina during 2006 and is so far being used by both North Carolina and South Carolina in 2007. It is still listed on this page because there is some tidying I need to do to make STRAND available globally and more work to be done on data analysis and visualization.
