Genus

Variations: Genera

A taxonomic division that generally refers to a group of animals which are similar in structure and descent but are not all able to breed amongst themselves. For the seven species of sea turtles, there are 6 different genera: genus Caretta = Loggerhead turtle ; genus Chelonia = Green turtle ; genus Dermochelys = Leatherback turtle ; genus Eretmochelys = Hawksbill turtle ; genus Lepidochelys = Kemp's ridley turtle and olive ridley turtle ; genus Natator = Flatback turtle .
