Karma is a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle that was found floating in Blackbeard Creek near Blackbeard Island on December 10, 2010. A local fisherman was out for the day in his newly fixed up boat and just happened to be in the right place at the right time to save Karma. Karma was anemic, thin, and was heavily covered with epibiota when he/she arrived; also the water temperature in Blackbeard Creek that day was 48°F, and Karma was only 55.7°F when he/she arrived! Karma was treated with fluids for dehydration upon arrival and started on antibiotic therapy to prevent secondary bacterial infections. We are currently treating Karma with supplemental iron to increase her red cell count and thankfully the anemia is slowly resolving. Karma is getting a lot of restaurant quality seafood along with his/her medical treatments and is doing well and putting on some much needed weight. Karma was released with a satellite transmitter during Jekyll Islands Turtle Crawl on May 21, 2011 along with Arribada, Aurora, and Frosty.
