Background

YYG718 "Katie" is a juvenile green sea turtle that was outfitted with a Sirtrack KiwiSat 202 transmitter and released on 26 June 2007. This turtle was captured during STFERL entanglement netting operations in the Lower Laguna Madre off the southern portion of South Padre Island, Texas, as part of a 2-year study funded by the Texas Sea Grant Program to examine occurrence and distribution of sea turtles in Texas bays.
This turtle was named after a STFERL crew member whose birthday fell on Katie's capture day. Special thanks go to Jeff George at Sea Turtle,Inc. on South Padre Island for providing a tank to house Katie overnight and space to process her and attach the satellite transmitter.
