Well, Heidi the deep-sea explorer is back where she was after the nesting season in 2006: in coastal waters south of Ocracoke Island in the Cape Hatteras National Sea Shore. Background

This was the forth and last turtle satellite tagged on Bald Head Islance, NC during the 2006 season. This was her fifth nest of the season and she was 105.5cm long (curved carapace length). This tag was sponsored by the WAVE Foundation at the Newport Aquarium in Kentucky. The WAVE Foundation named this loggerhead turtle “Heidi” in appreciation of board president, Heidi Jark. Heidi has served on the WAVE Foundation board since its inception in 1999 and was voted president in 2004. Her passion and commitment to the Foundation have been vital to the organization’s success. Under her leadership, WAVE continues to bring conservation issues and marine education to the Greater Cincinnati community. With her guidance and direction and the expanded scope of WAVE’s initiatives, their mission has become a global effort.

The satellite tag on Kate was funded by a grant from the Wave Foundation at the Newport Aquarium, Kentucky.
