"Leonie" is a very large female Loggerhead Turtle who got lost when she attempted to nest in East End, Grand Cayman! The turtle wandered off the beach, under a bush, across the road, through a gate, and into Mrs. Leonie Rankine's garden! The next morning, Mrs Rankine was shocked when she found the enormous turtle by her front step. She called for her husband, Mr Al Rankine, and they decided to help the turtle, so he called 911 emergency for assistance. The 911 operators notified Department of Environment Enforcement officer Guy Decou, and Department of Environment staff rushed to the scene. Researchers from the Department of Environment and the Marine Turtle Research Group attached a state-of-the-art satellite transmitter, sponsored by Ocean Frontiers Ltd Ocean Frontiers named their adopted turtle "Leonie," in honor of Mrs Leonie Rankine, who rescued her, and the Ocean Frontiers staff, Mr Rankine, and many other East End residents assisted in transporting "Leonie" back to the ocean, and setting her free!
