Dama'a was observed by the research team just before lunch time in the central part of the Gulf of Masirah. Named for the distinct markings of a tear drop on her tail fluke the team managed to deploy a Wildlife Computers satellite tag and obtain a genetic sample that will enable the team to determine the sex of the whale. As well as providing tracking information on the whale the tag also contains a pressure sensor that will monitor dive behaviour useful in determining how it uses its habitat. Stay tuned to this page and Share Dama's journey around the Arabian Sea with your friends!
