Sea Salt was rescued by Captain David White of Anna Maria Charters ( Captain David found Sea Salt floating off Anna Maria Island on 30-October-2016 listless at the surface. Captain David reported him to Mote's Strandings Investigations Program Hotline (941-988-0212) and because there were no marine units immediately available, upon our OK, he was able to pull him into the boat and meet Mote at Coquina Boat Ramp where David and his customer helped load him into Mote's truck for transport to the Mote Sea Turtle Hospital. Sea Salt was very lethargic and was possibly affected by Red Tide toxins. Here's the link to Sea Salt's rehab page describing his time in the hospital:

Sea Salt was released on Feb 3, 2017 from Lido Beach and is fitted with a satellite tag that reports not only location but also depth and temperature information so we can learn more about how he adjusts back to life in the wild. In addition, he is helping us learn more about adult male loggerheads which we don't see very often because the spend their entire lives in the ocean.
