Satellite Tracking

Why did animal X stop transmitting?

Champ was discovered entangled in a ghost net close to Pom Pom Island on 7th May 2017. The ghost net had restricted the blood flow to the front left flipper, eventually severing it. Sabah Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Rescue Unit wildlife veterinarian carefully amputated the exposed bone and sutured the wound. Champ spent six weeks recovering at Pom Pom Island Resort before being relocated to the well-established turtle rehabilitation centre at Scuba Junkie’s Mabul Beach Resort where he spent a further five weeks under the watchful care of the resort’s marine biologists and Honorary Wildlife Wardens. Everyone was delighted to see Champ’s ravenous appetite and ability to adapt to swimming with three flippers. After getting a final veterinary check-up and being kitted out with a satellite transmitter, he was released into the shallow waters around Mabul. Good luck Champ!
