Background

Tica is the first neonate-juvenile (one year old) hawksbill sea turtle to be equipped with a satellite transmitter in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. She (or He?) was released after being grown in the Machalilla National Park Rescue Center in Ecuador. With a lenght (CCL) of 19.1cm, Tica is part of a project that seeks to solve a long time mystery for science: the lost years of sea turtles. Where do they go when they emerge from their nests? This is a joint project between Equilibrio Azul, the Machalilla National Park and it's Rescue Center, ICAPO, The Lost Years Fund and NOAA.
