"Astro" (UUS525) is a juvenile Kemp's ridley that was captured on 4 August 2015 during TAMUG entanglement netting operations in Galveston Bay near Dollar Point, Texas City, Texas and outfitted with a Sirtrack KiwiSat 202 transmitter before being released later that day. Research to examine the habitat use patterns of juvenile Kemp’s ridleys from Galveston Bay was made possible by funding from the Moody Gardens Aquarium.

Background

UUS525 "Astro" is a juvenile Kemp's ridley (36.3 cm SCL) that was outfitted with a Sirtrack KiwiSat 202 transmitter and released on 4 August 2015. This ridley was captured during TAMUG entanglement netting operations in Galveston Bay near Eagle Point, San Leon, Texas. Research to examine the habitat use patterns of juvenile Kemp’s ridleys from Galveston Bay was made possible by funding from the Moody Gardens Aquarium.

UUS525 was nicknamed "Astro" by Moody Gardens Aquarium personnel, in honor of the Houston Astros Major League baseball team.
