The Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) Sea Turtle and Fisheries Ecology Research Lab (STFERL) is using in-water capture (i.e. entanglement netting) and satellite telemetry to characterize sea turtle occurrence, habitat preference, and movements in Texas bays and estuaries. The STFERL's tracking program will provide information on the role Texas coastal waters play as developmental habitat and foraging grounds for species such as the green (this website), Kemp's ridley, and loggerhead sea turtle and generate data essential to their management and recovery.

Project Partners

In-kind support for TAMUG netting operations and associated tracking is provided by the NOAA Sea Turtle Facility in Galveston, Texas; Sea Turtle Inc. in South Padre Island, TX; The Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) in Port Aransas, TX; the USCG Station on South Padre Island, Texas; and the TAMUG Marine Biology Department.

Project Sponsors

The TAMUG STFERL receives funding from the Texas Sea Grant Program to conduct this two-year assessment of sea turtle occurrence in Texas bays and estuaries.
