Tilly

Casey Key Loggerheads-2007

A project of Mote Marine Laboratory.

Tilly detoured into Charlotte Harbor! It's hard to say whether this was a voluntary move or she was drifted by the strong winds and storm tide currents from passage of tropical Storm Barry. While turtles at a home residency seem to hunker down and stay put, the meanderings of internesting turtles seem to be more influenced by wind-driven currents. For an interesting example, search for the 2006 Casey turtle named Redlow. Tilly is named and sponsored by Wooster School in Danbury, CT.

Background

Tilly is another big girl at 107.3 curved carapace length. She has an injury with a stumpy left front flipper but it did not hamper her on land in digging or crawling. She nested on Casey Key in 2000. She carries a time depth recorder and an acoustic tag.
