Background
Betty was found floating in Port St. Jo Marina, Florida on August 16, 2008. At that time, she was transported to the Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach, Florida. February 3, 2009, he/she was transported to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC), in stable condition, for continued care. Betty's continuing problem was with her jaws...similar to another previous patient at the GSTC from Gulf World Marine Park, named Bevelyn. Like Bevelyn, Betty underwent physical therapy to stretch the jaw muscles to accommodate larger prey. Once he/she started eating live crabs on his/her own, we knew she was ready for release! Betty was released on May 29, 2009 from Jekyll Island, GA with a few of her hospital friends, Aussie (loggerhead), Shrimp (Kemps ridley) and Route (Kemps ridley from the New England Aquarium).
