Background
Nokomis is a new untagged female, who measures 92.7 cm CCL N-T. She nested in front of the public facilities at Nokomis Public Beach, which are "turtle friendly" with filtered red and shielded lights to minimize turtle or hatchling disorientations.
Sea turtles dig the dark so KEEP BEACH LIGHTING 1) LOW, 2)LONG, and 3) SHIELDED.
LOW means low wattage and low in height to minimize light diffusion.
LONG means longer wavelengths (amber and red) are better to minimize the disorientation problems.
SHIELDED means to keep the source of illumination shielded from being directly visible.
