Background

Addie is a new turtle with no previous tagging history, who measured 94.5 cm curved carapace length notch-tip (so a medium sized girl). Nice bioluminescent film on her carapace (not oil) and lots of small caprellid shrimp so we might guess that she originated from a home range in shallow water where its easy for biofouling to occur- we can test this hypothesis a couple of months from now by discovering where she travels at the end of nesting season.

Addie is one of two turtles sponsored by Morrison Family Foundation on Manasota Key and is named for Miss Addie Morrison.

It is too early to know if the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will affect the tracked turtles. The Loop Current would change and so will the path of the oil spill. The USF Ocean Circulation Group Models enable us to follow the oil spill path in real time. http://ocgweb.marine.usf.edu/models.html
