Goose is back on line! We plotted the tag locations to get a better idea of his exact location and Goose is offshore off the boarder between Maryland and Delaware. Looks like he is in the Gulf Stream, which is at least a warm water environment for him. Most likely there was a small piece of debris or seaweed covering the salt water switch, preventing the tag from transmitting. Hopefully this tag will continue to transmit for another couple months before the battery power ends. The tag is set to transmit every seven days, so if all goes well you can expect map updates every Tuesday. Thanks again for your continued interest in the travels of Goose.

Background
"Goose," as we have come to call him (or her?), was given his name because of a large gooseneck barnacle that was attached to his shell when he stranded. Just for the record, we do not know the sex of goose, but for the purpose of this post I will refer to this turtle as "he." Goose was rescued by a biologist from the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, our partners in sea turtle rescue and conservation. When found on the Beach, Goose was severely hypothermic and arrived at the Aquarium unresponsive. He responded very well to therapy; he slowly regained his strength and his activity level returned to normal. Over the course of seven months he gained 4.3 kilograms - that's a whopping 9.4 pounds! Goose is being released at a healthy and robust 20 pounds!
