Background
Annie is a small female at 80.3 cm curved carapace length and is a new turtle not previously tagged. Annie bears a depth sensing GPS Fastloc transmitter.
On 24 August 2010, Annie arrived in Niles Channel around the Howell Key shoals between Summerland Key and Middle Torch Key. Since this locality is just a short boat ride away from the Summerland Key lab of Mote Marine Laboratory, biologists will soon have an opportunity to check in for Annie. Hopefully, Annie stays east of the channel away from boat traffic so that she does not get hit by a speed boat. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission compiled statistics that found 1 out of 5 dead or injured loggerheads that wash ashore are bearing injuries from a boat collision (Singel et al 2008). Go slow for those below!
