Hi all, My apologies for the lack of updates on this map caption. We moved our entire program into a new state of the art sea turtle center/hospital and then had a record year of sea turtle strandings. You can read about our record year on our blog at: http://rescue.neaq.org/ I have just changed this map by removing ocean currents to make it a little easier to read. I'll try to be better about updating the map as things here begin to settle with the new stranded sea turtles. Thanks - Connie, New England Aquarium Rescue Department Director.

Background

Everglades was one of over 70 sea turtles admitted to the New England Aquarium marine animal hospital during the early winter of 2009. Everglades was rescued off the beach in late November 2009 by a biologist from the Mass Audubon at Wellfleet Bay, our partners in sea turtle rescue and conservation. Upon admittance to the New England Aquarium animal hospital, Everglades was found to be hypothermic. Everglades responded well to therapy and was soon eating, swimming and behaving like a regular green sea turtle. Everglades spent his/her convalescence mostly in the same tank as two other green sea turtles (Navajo and Fossil Bute). Everglades doubled in weight during the rehabilitation phase gaining 2.75 kilograms.
