Background

SPOTS is a sub-adult green sea turtle weighing 41kg who was brought into the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP) during 2017 with plastic entangled around her flipper. Unfortunately, the damage was too extensive, and the flipper had to be amputated.

The DTRP team worked hard to get her feeding again and to bring her back to full health.

In the summer, SPOTS spent some time at the Dubai Underwater Aquarium and Zoo (DAUZ) to raise awareness of the plight of sea turtles and the threats they face in the wild, such as plastic entanglement.

SPOTS was fitted with a Wildlife Computers satellite-linked tag that was kindly sponsored by the great team at DAUZ so that we can track her integration back into the wild and make sure our rehabilitation protocols were successful.
