Background

“Razzmatazz” is a juvenile, Kemp’s ridley sea turtle that was incidentally caught off Buckroe Fishing Pier by a recreational fisherman on May 17th, 2017. The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response staff admitted “Razzmatazz” to the Marine Animal Care Center and were able to safely remove the hook from inside the turtle’s mouth. Radiographs ruled out any additional hooks and there were no other health concerns. “Razzmatazz” was cleared for release and outfitted with a satellite tag. “Razzmatazz” also has a PIT (passive integrated transponder) tag in the right front flipper and bilateral external rear flipper tags. “Razzmatazz” was released from the oceanfront in Virginia Beach, VA on May 30th, 2017.
