Background

“Ranger Tan” is a juvenile, Kemp’s ridley sea turtle that was incidentally caught off Buckroe Fishing Pier by a recreational fisherman on May 15th, 2017. The turtle was hooked lightly in the mouth and was removed by the fisherman. The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response staff admitted “Ranger Tan” to the Marine Animal Care Center. Radiographs ruled out any additional hooks and there were no other health concerns. “Ranger Tan” was cleared for release and outfitted with a satellite tag. “Ranger Tan” also has bilateral rear flipper tags and a PIT (passive integrated transponder) tag in the left front flipper. “Ranger Tan” was released from Virginia Beach, VA on May 19th, 2017.
