“Magenta” is a juvenile, Kemp’s ridley sea turtle that was incidentally caught off Buckroe Fishing Pier by a recreational fisherman on May 10th, 2017. The turtle was hooked in the mouth. The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response staff admitted “Magenta” to the Marine Animal Care Center. The hook was in the cranial esophagus and was removed under sedation. Radiographs ruled out any additional hooks and there were no other health concerns. “Magenta” was cleared for release and outfitted with a satellite tag. “Magenta” also has bilateral rear flipper tags and a PIT (passive integrated transponder) tag in the left front flipper. “Magenta” was release in Virginia Beach, VA on May 19th, 2017.
