Thank you to the pupils of English School of Kyrenia for raising funds to meet the cost of this satellite transmitter.

Background

The pupils of English School of Kyrenia have committed to raising £1000 to cover the cost of ESK-Bubbles's satellite transmitter.

ESK-Bubbles first nested at Alagadi in 2012. She returned to nest again in 2015. During these previous nesting seasons, ESK-Bubbles laid four nests each year and laid her last nest around July 20. We therefore expect ESK-Bubbles to stay on the coast of Cyprus, probably close to Alagadi, where she will be checked by our beach monitoring team when she returns to lay her 2nd, 3rd and 4th nests. Around July 20th we expect ESK-Bubbles to make a post-nesting migration to her foraging site, which might be anywhere between Cyprus and Tunisia.

  • This map connects positions generated by the ARGOS system designated as location class (lc) '3', '2', '1', 'A', 'B'. Locations that have been "filtered" are displayed as small red dots.
  • This maps also shows locations of class 'A' as small black dots which are not connected by a route line.
  • Bathymetry layers are derived from the GEBCO One Minute Grid.
  • Sea surface temperature and chlorophyll are derived from NASA's Ocean Color data.
  • Ocean currents and sea surface heights are derived from AVISO's Ssalto/Duacs Gridded Absolute Dynamic Topography & absolute geostrophic velocities data.
