Background

Tehuamixtle is an adult female East Pacific Hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). She was brought to the Mayto sea turtle conservation project (aka Campamento Tortuguero Mayto) on the 12th of December 2016 by a local fisherman from the small town of Tehuamixtle, Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco. The name of "Tehuamixtle" was given to the turtle in honor of the town of the same time to thank them for their support to sea turtle conservation.

The hawksbill "Tehuamixtle" was health checked and had external parasites removed and blood samples taken. She was then fitted with a satellite transmitter donated by Red Tortuguera A.C. and CIIDIR-IPN before being released with the local community.
