This adult female green turtle was collected opportunistically from a long beach seine net common to the lower Arabian Gulf, and fitted with a satellite transmitter to help identify important turtle areas off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, and possibly also migration routes should she decide to reproduce. This work was conducted in partnership with the Environment Protection and Development Authority of Ras Al Khaimah, to whom we are extremely grateful for their assistance. The green turtle measured 97.4 cm in curved carapace length and was deemed an adult turtle via laparoscopic inspection. She also carries an Inconel metal flipper tag number 0611 on her right front flipper so that we may recognise her in future years.

  • Sea surface temperature and chlorophyll are derived from NASA's Ocean Color data.
  • Ocean currents and sea surface heights are derived from AVISO's Ssalto/Duacs Gridded Absolute Dynamic Topography & absolute geostrophic velocities data.
